Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene such as KM5050 has the following excellent properties:
1. High impact strength, especially low-temperature impact strength, which is the highest among currently known plastics. The impact strength of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene is 3 times that of nylon, 2 times that of polycarbonate, and 5 times that of ABS. It can withstand long-term impact and maintain toughness even at -196℃. This feature is not available in other plastics. In addition, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene itself has good wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Therefore, it becomes the most ideal material in complex and harsh environments.
2. Strong wear resistance, its wear resistance is 5 times that of nylon 66 and polytetrafluoroethylene, and 7 times that of carbon steel.
3. The friction coefficient is small, only 0.07-0.11, and has good self-lubrication. Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene has self-lubrication. When it works in the form of rotation or sliding, even without lubricating oil, the lubrication effect is better than that of copper with lubricating oil. When used as a friction part, no lubricant is required, maintenance is simple, operation is smooth, noise is low, wear is small, and it does not damage the mating parts. It is an ideal friction material.
4. Good non-adhesion, easy to clean the surface adhesion. The surface adsorption force of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene is very weak, so it is difficult for other materials to adhere to its surface.
5. Stable chemical properties. Except for strong oxidizing acids, within a certain temperature and concentration range, most inorganic, organic acids, alkalis, salts and organic solvents are not corrosive to ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (except naphthalene solvents).
6. Excellent anti-aging properties. Under natural light, its aging life is more than 50 years.
7. Completely hygienic and non-toxic, it complies with the standards of the US Food and Drug Administration and can be used for contact with food and drugs.
8. Low density and light weight. The mass of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene is only 0.94g/cm3, which is easy to carry and install.
9. Noise reduction and shock absorption; ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene has the highest impact energy absorption value among plastics, so it has good damping properties and excellent noise reduction and shock absorption effects.
10. Excellent hydrophobicity. The water absorption rate of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene is less than 0.01%, which is only 1% of nylon. It is very stable in the water environment and it is difficult for algae and fungi to attach.
